Also, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the recent Verge interview with the Substack CEO, specifically his inability to give a good line on hate speech.

Lol yeah... pretty shameful. Literally the ultimate opportunity to set himself apart and he went and did that. No idea what PR team told him to do that tbh. Really bad move

Really bad move, why is it so hard to say “We will not tolerate racism and hatred.”

Especially considering they were launching IN OPPOSITION to Twitter. It would have been a perfect example to further separate from the prevalent reactionary and racist content on Twitter. A real missed opportunity in regards to both business and doing the right thing.

I swear that Zuckerberg and Musk have no idea what makes their platforms popular. The keep trying to make social network premium services, which is the exact opposite of why people use them in the first place.

Nothing Meta was ever safe for sex workers. Either they'll track you around the web by IP or other identifiers sufficiently to suggest your personal Facebook page to your clients, or you'll eventually fail to uncheck a box that shares your contacts (or your mom will share her contact info with them intentionally, and now you're in their database anyway, nothing you can do). A lot of people recommend that if staying anonymous is something you want to do that you should not have a Facebook or IG account at all.

Very good point -- cheers. But what about promoting work? I know so many people who rely on IG for this but maybe there’s something I’m missing

That's a big problem at the moment. Onlyfans and other platforms don't have built-in ways to promote yourself, so Instagram is still popular for that purpose. Personally, I'm not terribly concerned, but I at least go to the extent of having separate Windows and browser profiles. You can also create multiple user profiles on Android. Some people buy a second phone, use a VPN, and still end up with family members being suggested to follow their sex work profile or Onlyfans members finding their personal profile.
